Construction workers are ordinary fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, sons, daughters, grandchildren and in many cases grandparents.

We tend to be overly indulged in our construction projects and forget the plight of the fundis, piecing together your construction project.

Here are a few ways to ensure you have motivated workers in your site.

  1. Provide clear expectations and assign responsibility. Effective developers delegate by making people responsible for the work that they do.
  2. Offer praise and recognition. People do not remember what they were told, they remember how they felt when you told them something.
  3. Engage the big picture. Make your workers understand that they are part of the grand scheme of things and that the vision can only be achieved by their participation.
  4. Catch flies with honey. Do not use a brazen approach to handling workers. Avoid shouting and shaming them in public. Greet your workers with the utmost respect and you’ll find that they want to work harder for you.
